Cleaning update: nearly completed folding of the laundry (I have a couple more baskets to go so yay me), cleaned the bathroom (minus the tub, did mop the floor at least), cleaned OUT the couch, and vacuumed the living room. Managed to break a light fixture for my new living room ceiling fan I don't have up yet (which it is way past return date so I'm going to see if I can superglue it back together otherwise meh) - it's about right, I've broken at least three dishes within the last couple months (my Captain America & Sailor Moon cup and a bowl). I need to work on cleaning my room, getting the spare bed dusted/cleaned, laundry put away, and vacuuming the rest of the house. I'd also like to get the gardening beds put together ideally but that is backburner right now. I'd also like to re-organize my books and clean out the storage room. I also need to clean out my car.
So this weekend, other than cleaning, my brother came over and worked a bit more on the office floor - apparently it needs more floor leveler so he couldn't start that part (which fair, I never did end up painting anyway). He started me on watching Star Wars: Clone Wars show since I enjoyed the Maul show. Except early seasons animation was not great, so I don't know if I'll watch more of it without him. I don't know why but I just enjoy Star Trek stuff more? Maybe I just need to be in the mood for animated stuff.
So I updated Capes & Crusaders TCG today, only did a couple decks - but I had the idea last week to start a Make a Deck option at the community, so I got some rules/guidelines up for it - haven't started making what I have YET, but hopefully the concept works. *shrugs* I did end up returning to a "Monthly Theme" concept - except this one, since it's consisting of Pride, Spider-Man, and Supergirl is going to last until the end of August.
No writing this weekend, but I do think I'm going to pass on the
unconventionalcourtship this year - I just can't find one that I want to try, or I get sorta close but meh. It does inspire me to want to work on my X-Men Pairing & Prompt Generator - I'm planning on making a MCU one and a DC Comics one - the plan for writers to be inspired of different pairings for xmen100, mcu100 and now dc100.
Books Update
According to goodreads, I've read 71 books this year so far, which may or may not be accurate - the two apps I have for audiobooks had the same issue: where I'd be listening to a piece of work and then pause the work because I'm interrupted but then it would go back either to the beginning of the book or at whatever previous spot of the book I had paused at. I thought deleting the app and restarting it would help which it did, but it also kinda made me lose track of what I read up to that point - so obviously when I have a second I really need to double check all that. I marked a lot as finished and I did add I think all the books to my goodreads list, but not 100% sure. I feel like I'm missing a couple.
Anyway so obviously I love Romance, but lately I started to listening to more of the Dark Romance books which I weirdly enjoy, namely A.J. Merlin's stuff (I binged a good portion of their work), Brynne Weaver (on Leather & Lark right now), Alta Hensley (Hollow), and Jasmine Mas (Cruel Shifterverse series). I've still only read a handful of these Dark Romance books, and most of them are done well and are at least intriguing but I'm probably going to say I'm very happy with the audiobooks that DON'T do the background sounds for them. I will admit that the audiobooks for Brynne Weaver's trilogy is the best I've heard - they literally do the little laughs & talk at the same time when they are supposed to. Ugh, duets are spoiled for me for life.
In non-dark romance, I had pre-ordered Father Material from Alexis Hall and it arrived like a week before it's release date (thank you B&N), and it was absolutely amazing ending to the trilogy - I cried and laughed throughout the book and I finished the book fairly fast. I even used a credit to get the audiobook. It made me want to re-read the trilogy so finished re-reading Boyfriend Material (part 1) and 10 Things That Never Happened (part of another series by Alexis Hall, sorta alludes to BM universe but could be & is completely separate) .... I also read Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble (Winner Bakes All series #2) which made me cry (and laugh...) I connected so hard with Paris. I'm going to probably re-read the other works I have of AH - he just has this writing style that makes me want to read/listen to it and I connect more with. Anyway it's been announced a series based on Boyfriend Material is happening and obviously I am excited.
In other Romance books, I did mostly enjoy the Mari Carr books I read (Italian Stallions series) although honestly I could deal with a lot less spanking in her books. Basically everyone has the same kinks in the books, maybe a couple take it a bit further but yeah. I had to take a break from them although I did only check out the poly books anyway. The Summer Haze books I read weren't bad exactly but the same kind of problem I found with Carr happened here such as kinks & also if I remember correctly certain characters were military/army/etc and they'd just to refer to "war" as if that's the end concept. I get you want put some angst or history for your characters, but maybe be a little more specific?
I did really enjoy A Vow Made Twice by Emma Denny - I have to check out the other books in the trilogy eventually.
Movie News
Haven't really watched a lot of movies, I did really enjoy Luck (animated film about a lucky black cat & a unlucky human girl) - it was so cute. I also watched and really had fun with Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice. James Marsden is in along with Vince Vaugh and Eiza Gonzalez, and it was oddly goofy but a good concept. I honestly only really watched it for Marsden but I'm glad I watched it.
Punisher: One Last Kill was okay, I feel like it was a start of something? Maybe it's been too long since I watched the show and I enjoyed watching it at the time. But looking back I don't feel like I need to watch it again? I don't know. Maybe I would like it more if Dinah Madani made an appearance.
Watched Injustice - I'm pretty sure for the first time.... and I don't think I'm in the mood for dark!Superman. It wasn't bad exactly, I just think of my least favorite storylines is evil/dark!Clark. Although if I remember correctly I did enjoy Smallville's red k!Clark a lot, so I don't know. Maybe it's just what's happening around us that I'm kinda meh about the concept right now. I did enjoy the brief if unexpected (to me anyway) Clark/Diana moments. Also really want to read some Oliver Queen/Harley Quinn right now. Never played the games so I had no real concept of what was going to actually happen. I did like the ending even though it seemed like Superman calmed way too quickly but whatever.
Also watched Ghosted with Chris Evans and Ana de Armas and I'm so sad I did not watch this sooner! First of all as a fan of first Knives Out (MAINLY because of them, let's just say they are of my problematic OTPs), to get another film out of the two plus all the MCU cameos! It was so fun and honestly I definitely needed a badass woman representation right now.
TV News
Welp, I tried... sorry Dutton Ranch but episode 4 ruined it for me. Granted I get it, and I liked the concept of the show up to that point to a certain point and having never watched Yellowstone except for that first episode opener (which yeah should have clued me in what I was going to get). What can I say, the music on that advertisement for the show got me. It was nice seeing Natalie Alyn Lind (aka Lauren Strucker on The Gifted) again. Also I feel like I could really love Beth Dutton.
Marshals (the other spin-off of Yellowstone), I much more enjoyed (obviously). Although I think it was Kayce and Andrea's presence probably did more in making me like the show. It's already been renewed for a second season, so I'm looking forward to that. I'd probably stick to this sequel, I doubt I'll watch the original or Dutton Ranch.
The Hunting Party's finale was SO good and I was REALLY looking forward to a Season 3. *fingers crossed* someone picks it up (preferably someone I already have streaming-wise), I am so pissed it got canceled. I'll have to update the Pimp Your Fandom.
The Way Home season 4 is as interesting as ever - I'm glad we returned to the 1970s and we got a new time period. I'm so sad it's almost over.
The Other Bennett Sister - I never read the book, but I am enjoying the series so far (up to episode 7). Mary is brilliant and I connect so much with her. I love Lizzie though, and I love her moments especially in Episode 7. Darcy isn't in it a lot, but the little moments he's there - brilliant! Thomas Hayward is lovely so far and I did really enjoy William Ryder though. This show has scratched an itch where we got a British miniseries focused on Jane Austen stuff that we haven't seen since Sanditon & Lost in Austen. Although the latest new film adaptations of Emma & Persuasion helped a bit.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 has ended and all I want is more. I'm probably going to end up rewatching this series like five more times before the next season or the spin-off is released. It'll probably take another 2 years, so make that rewatching that series like ten more times.
Off Campus was amazing - I absolutely adored the music choices in all the episodes, while I don't remember the book very well mainly 'cause it's been a few years, I am glad to see everyone in Season 1 minus the love interests that we'll get introduced to in later seasons. Honestly can more book to show adaptions come out this way? Between this and Heated Rivalry I think I'm spoiled.
